In this video, you will learn how to warm up for the forearm bump pass, in pairs, with a ball.
Here are two exercises: how to return the ball with a bump, and how to pass with a bump
Firstly, how to return with a bump
This warm-up is intended to simulate the movement and position required for a bump pass.
Stand with your back to the net, with your partner three to four metres away facing you.
Throw the ball to your partner with both hands undersarm in a high arch
Your partner must bump the ball back to you.
Maintain your posture, legs bent, arms outstretched, body slightly bent.
When striking the ball, push well through your legs and use your arms and shoulders.
After ten consecutive returns, swap roles.
You can vary this warm-up in two ways:
First, you can bounce the ball off the floor towards your partner in order to pass the ball to them.
Next you could throw the ball high up, to their left...or right to help them work on their movemnt and position beneath the ball
Secondly, bump passing the ball
This exercise will prepare you to control the force and direction of your bump.
Stand two to three metres from your partner and bump pass the ball.
Take time to effectively use your legs, arms and shoulders. Aim towards your partner and throw the ball quite high.
Make as many consecutive passes as possible without losing the ball.
To vary this exercise, you can stand either side of the net.
You can also stand side by side facing a wall and pass the ball to one another by bouncing it against the wall.
Have a great warm-up!
