In this video, you will learn an exercise to help you work on your receiving of serves by positioning yourself
You will need two partners
Here are two situations to help you train: receiving front-on, and receivnig by re-positioning yourself
Firstly, receiving front-on
Stand around 6 metres from the net on the left side of the court
Your first partner positions themselve as a setter and in the middle of the same side of the court as you, at the net.
Your second partner stands as a server on the right hand side of the opposite side of the court behind the baseline
In this set-up, you will already be correctly positioned to make your pass as you receive serves
Once in position, your second partner serves to you
Make small steps to properly adjust your stance and body position to be directly in front of the ball.
Receive the ball with a bump pass, or an overhand pass and send it to your setter partner
They should be able to catch the ball without moving, or moving hardly at all
Repeat the exercise several times
Secondly, receiving the ball re-positioning yourself
You, with your setter partner should remain in the same place as before.
This time, your second partner serves from the lefthand side of the opposite side of the court behind the baseline
In this set up, when you receive the ball, you should re-position your body to be able to make the pass
Make small steps to adjust your position to be directly in front of the ball.
Before passing the ball to your partner, turn you body to face them to make an accurate bump or overhand pass
They should be able to catch the ball without hardly having to move.
Repeat the exercise several times.
Don't forget that receiving the ball well can set your team up for an effective attack. Over to you!
