In this video you are going to train yourself to perform an overhand pass that can score a point for your team.
You will need two partners.
The aim of this exercise is to make sure that you can carry out a good quality overhand pass. Here are two exercises for you to practise: passing to the left and passing to the right.
Firstly, how to pass to the left.
Stand just in front of the net as a setter, close to the right-hand antenna.
One partner stands on your side of the court, just in front of the baseline, in the middle of the court - roughly where a player receiving a serve might stand
The second partner stands at the far-left side of the net, as an attacker.
Your first partner throws the ball towards you in a high arch
Move your right foot forward - the foot closest to the net - before you pass the ball, and angle your body towards your attacking partner
Receive the ball overhand. Push off with your legs to create momentum so that you are able to pass the ball high, just above your attacker's head.
Your partner must be able to jump up and catch the ball.
Repeat the sequence using several balls, passing the balls without stopping.
Secondly, how to pass to the right.
In this exercise, your partner stays in the same place as before.
You and your second partner swap positions at the net.
This time, before catching the ball move your left foot forward - the foot placed next to the net - as you pass the ball, and angle your body towards your attacking partner.
Repeat the exercise several times.
Pass the ball to your attacker as best you can so that they have a better chance of scoring the point. Over to you!
