In this video, you will learn a drill to get used to shooting while raising your arm, to give the ball a good trajectory.
The aim of this exercise is to score with a good shooting action.
An offence player stands in front of the basket.
A defender faces them, with their back to the basket.
They holds a ball close to their opponent's hips, and on the same side as their dominant hand.
The offence player has to grab the ball, and immediately follow up with a shot, using the usual shooting action.
To learn a good shooting action, take a look at our video "The shooting action".
The offence player takes five shots in a row with this same action, moving around the key to shoot from different angles.
To make the exercise harder, the defender can raise an arm or jump slightly.
Once the player has taken their 5 shots, switch roles.
Repeat the same exercise, gradually moving backwards until you are shooting from 2 meters behind the end of the key.
To succeed in this exercise, the offence player will have to keep their knees bent and remember the correct shooting action: catching the ball, preparing the shot, and shooting dynamically.
The drill is complete when the player is able to shoot despite pressure from the defender without changing their shooting action. Over to you!
