In this video, we are going to learn how to maintain unfinished parquet flooring
Unfinished parquet floor is easily marked or stained, but a few simple cleaning techniques can give it new life
For this job, you will need: a microfibre broom, a hard bristle brush, black soap, a microfibre cloth, coarse and fine-grit sandpaper, and a parquet or hardwood floor renewal product such as a floor oil
Cleaning and upkeep of your parquet floor will be detailed in 3 steps:
Step 1: Sanding
Begin by sweeping away any dust on your floor. Use 120 grit sandpaper and sand the floor. Sweep the floor once again to remove any sawdust
Attention: Do not repeat this sanding step too often in order to avoid damaging the parquet
Step 2: Cleaning
Pour a large capful of black soap into a bucket of warm water. Take a hard bristle brush and clean the floor. Always begin at the corners and edges, and be sure to brush in the direction of the wood grain.

Dry with a microfibre cloth
To wipe away any stains, sand lightly with size 80 fine-grit sandpaper
wipe away any dust thoroughly with a broom
Step 3: Applying parquet finishing product
Making sure that the floor is completely dry, apply your floor oil finishing product with the aid of a microfibre cloth
Take care to make your strokes regular and make sure that you floor is evenly coated
Leave to dry for around 1 hour before applying a second coat
Leave the second coat to dry for the indicated time
Repeat this process every six months with the same product for a perfectly protected floor
