Thousands of Children in Cambodia do not have the means to buy a cycle. Many children live far from school and cycling is often the only option to commute. Moreover road safety has been an issue for decades. In 2017, one out of 10000 people died in a road accident in Cambodia.
Decathlon donated 50 cycles to children from Phare Ponelu Selpak, an art school, in order to help them commute daily.
Sikana and Decathlon organized a bike repair workshop and an awareness campaign on road safety. Teachers were also trained thanks to educational programs developed by Sikana and the support of Decathlon employees.
In Cambodia, several children stop going to school. One of the primary reason is the long commute between home and school.
