In this video you will learn how to hit a forehand overhead drop shot.
The forehand overhead drop shot is hit from the rear court to the opponent's forecourt.
It is a shot that is disguised to surprise the opponent who is expecting a smash or a clear.
The three key steps are the preparation, the shot and the recovery.
Step 1 - The preparation.
Use a forehand grip.
Start in the ready position.
Take the racket leg back and twist the body sideways.
The feet should be pointing diagonally toward the side-line.
Shuffle back and get behind the shuttle.
Use a relaxed grip when you start.
Raise the racket and the non racket arm to give balance.
The shoulders and the elbows should be aligned.
The racket head should be slightly inclined toward the ground.
The weight should be on the back foot and point the shuttle with your non-racket arm.
Step 2 - The shot.
Tighten your grip and swing the racket behind the back with the head pointing downward.
Hit the shuttle gently and smoothly.
You do not need much power to make it travel over the net.
Keep your arm movement compact and controlled, rotate the elbow and avoid making a snapping action with your wrist.
Follow through the racket arm across to the other side.
Remember the impact should be high and a little ahead of the racket shoulder.
Step 3 - The recovery.
Shuffle back to the ready position at the middle of the court.
Practice your overhead drop until you manage hitting it consistently into the forecourt.
Enjoy the game! .
