In this video you will learn how to make the pattern for the front-right panel of an Angrakha.
Don’t forget to watch the previous video to make a pattern for the back piece and for the front-left panel.
Spread out a pattern sheet on the table and place the pattern of the left panel on top of it.
Position the inner side of the pattern 2.5 inches from the edge of the pattern sheet.
Add 2.5 inches to the width of the pattern sheet.
Starting from the shoulder, draw a dotted line on the pattern sheet, tracing the outline of the front-left pattern.
As you trace the hem allowance line continue 2.5 inches past the front-left pattern to the edge of the pattern sheet.
Trace a dotted line along the outline of the neck hole, extending it past the front-left pattern to the edge of the pattern sheet.
Cut along the dotted line on the pattern sheet.
Don’t forget the collar and the shoulder line!.
You now have the pattern for the front-right panel of the Angrakha.
Place the front-left pattern on the table.
As shown, flip the front-right pattern and place it overlapping the front-left pattern.
Mark a point 4 inches below the top corner of the front-right pattern’s flap, along its inner edge.
Now, mark a point at 1 inch from the inner edge and about 2 inches from the top edge.
Draw a dotted arc between the two points you have just made and extend the arc to the top corner of the flap.
The arc is merely an optional design for the loose flap that will be fastened with a string.
Use a pair of scissors to cut along the dotted arc.
Place the front-right pattern on top of the front-left pattern, overlapping half of the hem.
Draw a dotted line along the inner edge of the front-right pattern, starting from the top of the neckline, all the way down to the hem.
This will help you see the edge when the patterns are placed together.
As shown, mark the knot that will fasten the front flap as well as a second optional knot at the next point below it.
Place the three parts of the pattern together, ensuring that they are aligned with each other.
You have now learnt to cut the pattern for the front-right panel of an Angrakha.
